Anna Prieto Sandoval, former chair of Sycuan Band, passes at 76
Anna Prieto Sandoval, a former chair of the Sycuan Band of Mission Indians in California, died on October 28. She was 76.

Sandoval became chair in 1972. Over the next two decades, she led the tribe out of poverty by bringing gaming to the reservation.

"Her dedication was tremendous. It was all about her people, about native people," current chairman Daniel J. Tucker told The Los Angeles Times.

Sandoval served as chair until 1991.
