Barney Old Coyote, Crow, most decorated Indian WWII veteran
Barney Old Coyote, a member of the Crow Tribe of Montana, is the most decorated Indian veteran who served in World War II.

Old Coyote, 87, enlisted after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He served on 72 combat missions during the war and received 17 awards.

"I'll think of the military thing. I'll lay out medals and stuff and see pictures. I'll say that wasn't for me, that was for my people," Old Coyote told told KXLF-TV. "I don't think about it all the time, but every once in a while I'll just say a word or two of thanks and that's it."

Old Coyote comes from a long line of Crow warriors, KXLF reported.
