Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe chairman opposes Cobell settlement
The leader of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe of South Dakota says the $3.4 billion settlement to the Indian trust fund lawsuit is unfair.

Chairman Joseph Brings Plenty says Indian landowners aren't being offered enough money. "It's not really fair, as far as the settlement is concerned, if you calculate what they should be getting paid," he told The Rapid City Journal. "It's dangling some funds in front of individuals who are living in a poverty-stricken area. Of course it's going to be appealing."

The deal provides $1.5 billion in payments to Indian landowners and creates a $1.9 billion land consolidation fund.
