Seneca Nation looking to acquire license for hydropower facility
The Seneca Nation of New York hopes to acquire a license for a hydropower facility at Kinzua Lake.

The lake was built on land that was taken from the tribe. It is located on a part of the Alleghany Reservation in New York and it stretches into Pennsylvania.

The hydropower facility at the lake is currently run by an Ohio company. The tribe says its proposal will help the economy in western New York.

"We don't view this as just simply another way to make money," President Robert Odawi Porter told The Buffalo News. "We view this as an integral contribution to this region's economy."

The tribe is notifying the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission of its intent to bid for the license.
