Conditions reportedly improve at reservation mobile home park
Conditions appear to be improving at a mobile home park on the the Torres-Martinez Desert Cahuilla Reservation in southern California.

In May 2009, a federal judge appointed a receiver to run the Desert Mobile Home Park, also known as Duroville. Thomas J. Flynn, the receiver, said sewer lines, water lines and water pumps are being repaired.

Residents are also benefiting from monthly food donations, Flynn said. There's also volunteer medical services for the community.

The majority of the residents at the park are Purepecha Indians and Hispanic migrant workers from Mexico and Central America. As many as 6,000 people lived there at one point, according to news reports.

Some residents are moving out, Flynn said. But about 235 units remain occupied.

The park is owned by Harvey Duro, a tribal member. The Bureau of Indian Affairs says he has failed to maintain a safe and healthy environment at the 40-acre site.
