New US Attorney for New Mexico makes Indian Country a priority
Kenneth Gonzales, the U.S. Attorney for New Mexico, is making Indian issues a priority.

Gonzales has established an 11-member team to focus solely on Indian Country. He wants to be responsive to tribal needs

"I don't know of any other U.S. Attorney's Office in the country that has a section specifically dedicated to this area," Gonzales told the Associated Press.

The attorneys on the team have been assigned to specific tribes. They are required to visit reservations.

"Their job is not only to prosecute crimes that occur in Indian country, but to get into their assigned communities and get to know the leaders, the police and law-enforcement elements and get to know the people," Gonzales told the AP.
