A jury in South Dakota began deliberations in the 1975 kidnapping and murder of American Indian Movement activist Anna Mae Pictou Aquash.

John Graham, a Native man from Canada, faces life in prison if convicted of murder, kidnapping and sexual assault charges. His attorneys say state prosecutors haven't provided enough evidence to prove the case.

The trial began last week and was expected to last several days but it ended yesterday after Graham's attorneys declined to call witnesses.

Aquash, who was Mik'maq from Canada, was killed on the Pine Ridge Reservation in December 1975.
