Jerome "Brooks" Big John will continue to serve as president of the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians pending resolution of a tribal court case, The Ojibwe Times reports.

The tribal council voted 4-1-1 on April 12 to remove Brooks. He went to court to challenge the move as unconstitutional.

Judge Gary Smith held a hearing on April 15 to consider the case. He said he needed more time to consider the briefs and said John can remain in power in the meantime.

The dispute apparently began after John suspended tribal administrator Marilyn Miller. He said he has received numerous complaints about her job performance.

John was appointed president in February. He replaced Carl Edwards, who resigned unexpectedly last November.
