HUD Secretary testifies at South Dakota field hearing on housing
Shaun Donovan, the Secretary for the Department of Housing and Urban Development, will testify at a field hearing on Indian housing next week in South Dakota.

Donovan will appear before a joint hearing of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee and the Senate Banking Committee on August 25. He's joining other tribal leaders to discuss was to address housing needs in Indian Country.

“When I met with Secretary Donovan earlier this year, I extended an invitation for him to visit South Dakota and hear firsthand from local leaders about the housing issues facing our reservations and rural communities,” said Sen. Tim Johnson (D-South Dakota), a member of both committees. “I’m glad he has agreed to visit our state as part of a joint hearing I called to learn how we can better address the unique challenges and housing needs of our tribes and rural communities.”

On the day before the hearing, Donovan will meet with the Rosebud Sioux Tribe and visit a housing development on the reservation. "I am pleased to accept Senator Johnson’s invitation to tour the Sioux reservation and gain first-hand knowledge of the housing challenges in South Dakota’s rural communities," he said.

The August 25 hearing takes place at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City.
