Onondaga Nation abandons name brand tobacco amid state tax effort
The Onondaga Nation will join at least one other New York tribe in selling only Indian-produced brands of tobacco.

The tribe also might start up its own tobacco manufacturing business in order to avoid paying state taxes on goods sold to non-Indians. The state wants to start imposing the tax on September 1.

The Oneida Nation announced earlier that it will only sell its own brand of tobacco that it manufactures. The tribe also plans to sell other Indian brands.
