Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation puts ax on lineal descendency
The Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation of North Dakota has put an end to lineal descendency in tribal enrollment.

Prospective members of the tribe must have at least 1/8th degree of Hidatsa, Mandan or Arikara blood. Previously, membership was open to all descendants of an enrolled member.

The tribe also imposed a blood quantum requirement on tribal leaders. Candidates for council and chairman must have a minimum of 1/4th degree of Hidatsa, Mandan or Arikara blood.
