Amah Mutsun Tribe third in line on BIA federal recognition queue

Leaders of the Amah Mutsun Tribe of California hope the Bureau of Indian Affairs will make a decision on their federal recognition petition in the next few years

The tribe started the process in 1990. Its petition was complete in 2003 and is now number three on the BIA's "ready" list, according to the agency's November 19, 2010, summary status update.

The BIA says only four tribes are on the "ready" list, meaning their petitions are ready for a decision.
