Indian Country will be dealing with the loss of yet another friend in Congress.

Sen. Kent Conrad (D-North Dakota) won't run for re-election in 2012. He is the chairman of the Senate Budget Committee and a member of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee.

Conrad, along with Dorgan, has sponsored numerous bills for tribes in North Dakota and for others across the nation. Dorgan, the former chairman of the Indian Affairs Committee, retired last year.
