Sen. Akaka to serve as leader of Senate Indian Affairs Committee

Sen. Daniel Akaka (D-Hawaii) will serve as chairman of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee in the 112th Congress.

Akaka is a longtime member of the committee. His biggest issue has been federal recognition for Native Hawaiians.

The committee has yet to announce its first business meeting or first hearing.
