Navajo Nation DJ helps radio station in Utah win industry accolades

A 34-year-old member of the Navajo Nation wakes up nearly 150,000 people in Utah as the host of the morning show on U92.

Courtney Begaye, also known as DJ Poetik C, airs "The Navajo on The Radio" from 6am to 10m every weekday. He's one of the reasons U92 was named FMQB's Rhythmic Station of the Year, an award that typically goes to stations in much larger urban markets.

“I would do for free," Begaye told The Salt Lake Tribune of the love for his job.

Begaye was born and raised in Utah. He's spent nearly all of his life in Utah except for time he spent on the New Mexico portion of the Navajo Nation, where he got his start as a DJ.
