Figure in Abramoff scandal faces sentencing in Washington, DC

Michael Scanlon, one of the major figures in the Jack Abramoff scandal, will be sentenced for his crimes in Washington, D.C., today.

Scanlon pleaded guilty for stealing millions of dollars from tribes. He has agreed to pay $19.6 million in restitution although it appears none of the money will be distributed until after a restitution hearing in three months.

Scanlon has cooperated with federal prosecutors in their cases against other people who played a role in the scandal. He says he should only spend two years in prison.

The sentencing hearing takes place at the federal courthouse at 11am before Judge Ellen Huvelle.
