United Auburn Indian Community due to hold council election

Two members of the United Auburn Indian Community of California who have been banished from the tribe are seeking seats on the council.

Jessica Tavares, a former chair, is running for vice chair. Dolly Suehead, a former council member, is running for treasurer.

Both women are part of a group that was banished for criticizing the sitting council. The main issue appears to be fees paid to longtime attorney Howard Dickstein.

The critics say Dickstein has been paid $25 million over the years and has exerted too much influence over the tribe.
