Former Senate aide sentenced for guilty plea in Abramoff scandal

Ann Copland, a former aide to Sen. Thad Cochran (R-Mississippi), was sentenced for her role in the Jack Abramoff scandal.

Copland was sentenced to 75 days in a halfway house and 75 days of home detention. She pleaded guilty to accepting gifts from Abramoff and his associates in exchange for legislative favors for the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, Abramoff's biggest client.

Copland is the 21st person to have been convicted in connection with the scandal.
