Tribal leaders head to Washington for NCAI winter conference

Hundreds of tribal leaders are in Washington, D.C., this week for the National Congress of American Indians winter session.

The meeting starts today. Highlights include former Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-North Dakota), who will talk about his new foundation for Indian youth; Kim Teehee, a member of the Cherokee Nation who works at the White House; Rep. Dale Kildee (D-Michigan); and Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan.

Attendees will also hear from David Hayes, the deputy secretary at the Interior Department; and Keith Harper, who will discuss the $3.4 billion settlement to the Indian trust fund lawsuit. NCAI's leadership awards dinner takes place this evening.
