Police treating death of 13-year-old Native boy as homicide

Authorities in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, are investigating the death of a 13-year-old Native boy whose body was found burned inside a car.

Wayne Ballantyne was found on May 21. His nephew thinks he was killed by gang members.

"I heard that he got ganged up ... for trying to steal a Captain Morgan, I think, from the house," Ivan Sewap, 19, told CBC News. "I heard that they beat him up. Beat him up to death for that bottle, and then they took him to the car and they set him on fire in there."

Ballantyne started drinking and doing drugs at a young age, Sewap said.
