Former vice president of Ho-Chunk Nation indicted for bribes

The former vice president of the Ho-Chunk Nation of Wisconsin and two of his associates have been indicted on bribery charges.

Clarence P. Pettibone, 52, accepted bribes from companies that wanted to do business with the tribe, according to federal prosecutors. They say Timothy G. Whiteagle, 59, Deborah Atherton, 54, helped arrange the bribes to capitalize on Pettibone's influence.

Pettibone has served as vice president, chairman of the tribal legislature’s Finance Committee and as a member of the legislature’s Development Committee, The La Crosse Tribune reported.
