Prairie Band Potawatomi man named archbishop for Philadelphia


Charles J. Chaput, a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation, has been named archbishop for Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Pope Benedict XVI.

Chaput is the first American Indian archbishop. He most recently worked in Denver, which has a large urban Indian community.

Chaput replaces Cardinal Justin Francis Rigali, who resigned when he reached the age of 75.
