North Dakota tribe asks energy companies to help repair roads

The Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation of North Dakota is asking oil companies to sign a cooperative agreement to help repair roads on the reservation.

The roads have seen an increase in traffic due to oil and gas production on the reservation. One road with over 80 potholes, BIA 12, sits along 22 producing wells and is slated for even more development in the next few years.

"The ultimate goal is that the oil companies will contribute to the cost of repairing and maintaining the roads that they use," Chairman Tex Hall said at a reservation roads meeting, The Minot Daily News reported.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs is working with the tribe on the agreement.
