North Dakota tribal members facing eviction amid energy boom

Dozens of members of the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation of North Dakota are being evicted from a mobile home park to make way for housing for energy workers.

Around 90 people, mostly tribal members, live in the Prairie Winds Mobile Home Park. The site is on the Fort Berthold Reservation but it's not in tribal hands, putting the residents at the mercy of a non-Indian developer who has set an August 31 deadline to vacate.

“It’s nothing fancy, but it’s home,” Mark Skibsrud, who is one of the few non-Indian residents, told The Washington Post.

The tribe has set aside an alternate site for the mobile home park but some residents say they can't afford new trailers to move there.
