Cobell settlement brings more than $4M so far to Wyoming

The $3.4 billion Cobell trust fund settlement has brought more than $4.7 million so far to Indian beneficiaries in Wyoming.

Checks for $1,000 went out to members of the historical accounting class. Some 4,718 in Wyoming received their payments, according to Garden City Group, which was appointed by the court to administer the settlement.

Another 750 are waiting for their payments. Most are submitting documentation related to estates, Garden City said.

A second round of payments for the trust administration class will come later this year. Wyoming has about 6,728 members, according to Garden City.

The trust administration payment is expected to be $800. Some beneficiaries will receive more, depending on the level of activity in their Individual Indian Money (IIM) account.
