Homer A. Mandoka, the chairman of the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi Indians, has been named Tribal Leader of the Year by the Native American Finance Officers Association.

Mandoka has served five terms on the tribal council and was named chairman in 2010. He has overseen the expansion of the tribe's casino, started development projects on the reservation and helped pass the Michigan Indian Family Preservation Act.

“NAFOA is pleased to honor Chairman Mandoka with the NAFOA Tribal Leader of the Year Award for his outstanding contributions to Indian Country and the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi,” NAFOA President William Lomax said in a press release. “His dedicated leadership has economically advanced the NHBP and the impact of his leadership is felt across Indian Country.”

Mandoka received the award at NAFOA's 31st annual conference last week.
