New route through Oregon and Idaho for megaload shipment

A megaload shipment will be back on the road this Sunday but the route won't pass through the Nez Perce Reservation in Idaho.

Instead the truck will leave the Port of Umatilla in Oregon and travel along highways in eastern Oregon. The state Department of Transportation has already issued a travel advisory for the shipment.

The truck is due to arrive in Homedale, Idaho, next week. The shipment will pick up again after Thanksgiving but the Department of Transportation there is still studying the route, an official said.

One truck went through the Nez Perce Reservation and the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests in August. A federal judge blocked future shipments until the U.S. Forest Service studied the route and consulted with the tribe.

The tribe retains hunting, gathering and other treaty-based rights on federal forest land.
