Governor urged to oppose Miccosukee Tribe land-into-trust bid

Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) is being asked to oppose the Miccosukee Tribe land-into-trust application.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs approved the tribe's application for 229 acres in August 2012. Miami-Dade County has filed an appeal and a local lawmaker wants Scott to join the battle.

“I am not confident that the Federal Government would take into account the detrimental effects to the surrounding community,” state Rep. Jeanette Nuñez wrote in a letter to Scott that was posted by The Miami Herald.

The tribe's site currently houses a golf course.
