Lac Courte Oreilles Band takes over child welfare cases in county

The Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe is slowly taking over child support cases from Sawyer County in Wisconsin.

The tribe's new child support department became fully operational last November, according to the February 2013 issue of the tribal newsletter. The tribe is now in the process of transferring 860 cases from the county.

The transfer will happen slowly -- to date, only five cases have been transferred. The process is expected to be complete by July 2015.
