Bill revokes registered trademarks for Washington Redskins

Lawmakers in the House introduced a bill to revoke the trademarks of the Washington Redskins professional football team.

H.R.1278, the Non-Disparagement of American Indians in Trademark Registrations Act of 2013, cancels all existing "Redskins" marks and prohibits future registrations. The bill has 10 sponsors, including Rep. Tom Cole (R-Oklahoma) and Rep. Betty McCollum (D-Minnesota), the co-chairs of the Congressional Native American Caucus.

The bill was referred to the House Judiciary Committee.
