County challenges Salish and Kootenai Tribes land-into-trust

Commissioners in Ravalli County, Montana, voted to appeal a land-into-trust application submitted by the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes.

On May 17, the Bureau of Indian Affairs agreed to place 58 acres in trust for the tribe. County commissioners are worried about the loss of property tax revenue if that happens.

In the past 3 1/2 years, the BIA has approved 104 land-into-trust applications for the tribe, The Ravalli Republic reported. Only one application was ever challenged.
