Mainstream media wanted Obama to discuss racist mascot

President Barack Obama discussed a wide range of issues at the White House Tribal Nations Conference on Wednesday but several mainstream media outlets want people to know what he didn't talk about.

Obama made waves last month when he questioned the mascot of the Washington professional football team in an interview with the Associated Press. He hasn't talked about it since then but several media outlets appeared to be disappointed that he didn't bring it up at yesterday's meeting.

Still, some tribal leaders spoke out against the name. "It's an ugly word," Gary Pratt, the chairman of the Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma, told WUSA, a Washington, D.C., station.

"We all know they'll continue to lose until they change their name," Wallace Coffey, the chairman of the Comanche Nation, told WJLA, another local outlet.
