BIA reaches agreement on road to Hualapai Tribe tourist site

The Bureau of Indian Affairs has reached an agreement to continue work on a road for the Hualapai Tribe of Arizona.

The BIA secured a temporary easement to build the road to the tribe's popular Grand Canyon Skywalk tourist attraction. The agency must give notice to rancher Nigel Turner before the road opens to the public, the Associated Press reported.

Turner previously blocked access to the reservation. He started charging a toll for tourists who used a road on his land but he agreed to stop the practice, the AP said.

More than a half-million people visit the Skywalk every year, according to news reports.
