Voters of the Passamaquoddy Tribe at Indian Township in Maine like to keep politics in the family -- in this case, the same family.

Three brothers made it to the upcoming general election ballot, The Portland Press Herald reported. Billy Nicholas is running for chief while his brother, Leslie, is running for vice chief.

Another brother, Alex, is running for a seat on the council. He currently works as the tribe's police chief.

Billy Nicholas served as chief from 2006 to 2010. He was ousted in 2010 but received an unusual severance payment of $40,436, the paper reported.

One of Nicholas’ main rivals for the position was Allen Sockabasin. He was abruptly removed from the ballot on the night before the primary due to an old conviction that may have not even been valid, the paper said.
