The Citizen Potawatomi Nation of Oklahoma has opened a new restaurant that serves fry bread and other Native foods.

By word of mouth, FireLake Fry Bread Taco has become a new draw in Shawnee since its debut in September. The fry bread recipe came from tribal members and there are other offerings based on traditional foods like corn, bean and bison.

“People already know what a fry bread taco is, but they don’t know the CPN way of making a fry bread taco," spokesperson Jennifer Bell told Indian Country Today.

Bell said one of the most popular items is the fry bread dessert. It's served with strawberries and whipped cream.
