Authorities investigate fatal crash involving Bad River officer

A police officer from the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Tribe in Wisconsin was involved in a fatal vehicle accident on Monday.

According to the Ashland County Sheriff's Office, the officer's squad car collided head on with another vehicle. A 66-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the other car, died on the scene and the 33-year-old driver suffered injuries and was transported to a hospital for "advanced medical care."

The officer also was injured. He was taken to a hospital for treatment, the sheriff's office said.

The Wisconsin State Patrol is investigating.
