Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes take Yellowstone bison

The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of Montana have taken 37 bison from Yellowstone National Park.

The animals are being taken to a slaughter facility on the reservation. They will be used for meat, hides and other parts.

“It’s almost a healing kind of thing,” Tom McDonald of the tribal natural resources office told The Billings Gazette.

The tribe retains a treaty right to hunt on ceded lands that are now a part of Yellowstone.
