James Meggesto, a member of the Onondaga Nation of New York, has joined the Indian law practice at Holland & Knight.

Meggesto will serve as deputy leader of the Indian Law Practice Group. He is working out the firm's Washington, D.C., office.

"I am excited to be able to contribute to the first-rate tribal legal services for which Holland & Knight is so well known, and to add my experience and leadership to the firm's dedication to Indian Country and to its ongoing growth in this area of the law," Meggesto said in a press release.

Meggesto previously worked at Akin Gump in DC. Last summer, he faced criticism for a post on Twitter that accused Tohono O'odham Nation Chairman Ned Norris Jr. of lying to Congress.

Meggesto has since deleted his Twitter account.
