The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma will hold a Memorial Day ceremony at its new veterans center.

The $2 million, 8,700-square-foot Cherokee Veterans Center opened in March. It features a hall of honor, a community room and kitchen, a sunroom and a business center.

"This veterans center is a tribute to the members of this community, this tribe that have served," deputy chief S. Joe Crittenden told The Tulsa World. "We must never forget their sacrifice."

The May 23 ceremony will honor the 4,400 tribal members who have served in the military.
