The Yurok Tribe of California is being joined by local, state and federal authorities in a massive raid of illegal marijuana farms on the reservation.

The number of operations has tripled in the last few months, officials said. The farms are damaging sacred sites, harming salmon runs and depleting the water supply.

"We can't no longer make it into our dance places, our women and children can't leave the road to gather. We can't hunt. We can't live the life we've lived for thousands of years," Chairman Thomas O'Rourke told The Los Angeles Times.

Some 43 search warrants are being served throughout the week. An estimated 100,000 marijuana plants are expected to be destroyed.
