The Navajo Nation has finalized a "multi-million" dollar trust fund settlement with the Obama administration.

President Ben Shelly will make an announcement at the Window Rock Tribal Park in Window Rock, Arizona, at 10am on Friday morning. He is due to be joined by Secretary Sally Jewell, the head of the Interior Department, and Assistant Secretary Kevin Washburn, the head of the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

The tribe sued the Interior Department in 2006 for mismanagement of its trust funds and trust assets. Back in June, Shelly said the settlement would total around $554 million.

Separately, the tribe had sued the federal government in a breach of trust case that went to the U.S. Supreme Court in 2003 and in 2009. No money was ever awarded but the tribe claimed a mishandled coal lease resulted in the loss of at least $600 million.
