The winter roundup of bison from Yellowstone National Park has begun

According to the Buffalo Field Campaign, more than 250 bison were trapped this week. The group said about 100 were taken by the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of Montana and the InterTribal Buffalo Council for slaughter.

The numbers couldn't be immediately verified because the National Park Service is only disclosing roundup numbers on a bi-weekly basis. "We have promised to provide regular reporting of our bison management activities,” a spokesperson told the Associated Press.

Tribal hunters and hunters from the state of Montana have taken an additional 73 bison this winter, the AP reported.
