The Métis Nation of Saskatchewan closed its doors today after running out of money and losing funds from the Canadian government.

The last three staff members were let go, according to news reports. The organization itself has been affected by infighting among Métis leaders, who have been unable to meet for regular legislative assemblies.

"I think it's a sad day for the organization. I think that it's the role of all Métis leaders to ensure that the governing organization of our nation, that represents Métis people, is running in an efficient, proper, and accountable fashion," President Robert Doucette told reporters, CKOM reported.

The government was withholding $416,000 in annual funding due to the internal dispute. A court decision could force a legislative assembly, which would lead the restoration of the money.
