Phyliss J. Anderson, the first woman to lead the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, is running for re-election. Anderson made history in 2011 when she won election as chief during a time of upheaval and financial instability. She hopes to lead her people for another four years. "We can only continue to improve," Anderson said during her announcement, WTOK reported. "There's so many things that are needed on our reservations and I want to make sure that we stay stable and that we continue to make more progress, so we can do more things for our people on our reservations."
