Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians heads to run-off for chief

The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians will hold a run-off for the chief's position.

Phyliss J. Anderson, the first woman to lead the tribe, will face former chief Beasley Denson after neither failed to receive a majority of votes in an election on Tuesday. Unofficial results posted on Facebook showed Anderson with 40 percent and Denson with 29 percent

Anderson defeated Denson, who only served one term, in 2011. She actually beat him twice -- a second election was held after the tribal council at the time invalidated the results of the first one. Denson later blamed his loss on an FBI raid of the tribe's gaming facilities, a probe that does not appear to have resulted in any charges against anyone.

A date for the run-off hasn't been scheduled.
