Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio), the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, is resigning. Boehner will leave Congress at the end of October, according to news reports. The shakeup comes as the extremely conservative segment of the Republican Party threatens to cause a shutdown of the federal government in order to deny funding to Planned Parenthood. Boehner was first elected in 1990, according to Wikipedia. He doesn't have much of a record on Indian issues mainly because Ohio lacks federally recognized tribes. The Oneida Nation of New York hosted a fundraiser for Boehner on its reservation in August. Get the Story:
