Former Prairie Island president Albert White passes away at 69

Albert Charles “Sonny” White, a former president of the Prairie Island Indian Community in Minnesota, passed away on January 6. He was 69.

White's Dakota name was Wah Cho Geh Nee Gah, or One Who Leads. He was remembered for putting the tribe on a stronger path through economic development.

"I knew Albert all my life, and his heart was for the people in that he always had the people come first in the community," Treasurer Johnny Johnson told The Rochester Post-Bulletin.

White also served as the general manager of the Treasure Island Resort and Casino.
