Ramona Horsechief wins Indian taco championship for fifth time

The 12th annual National Indian Taco Championship took place in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, on Saturday.

Ramona "Monie" Horsechief, who is Pawnee and Cherokee, took home the first place prize of $1,500. This is her fifth win in the last eight years, The Pawhuska Capital-Journal reported.

"It blessed my heart when they announced my name as winner and my husband was right there with me to share victory," Horsechief said on Facebook.

The People's Choice award also went to a repeat contestant. The Osage Sisters took home the title for the fourth year in a row, The Osage News reported. Dana Daylight and Jacque Jones, who ran the food booth with the winning taco, took home a $1,000 prize.

“This year was really amazing and it took a lot of effort from the entire family,” told The Capital-Journal.
