Muckleshoot Tribe still seeking answers for fatal shooting by officers

Renee Davis, 1993-2016.

An inquest into the death of a woman on the Muckleshoot Tribe will take place in May.

Renee Davis, a 23-year-old mother of two who was pregnant at the time of her death, was shot and killed by deputies from the King County Sheriff's Department. Her family and the tribe are still searching for answers about the October 21, 2016, incident.

“Why they didn’t ask for help when they knew she was in a crisis — she wasn’t threatening anybody,” Bree R. Black Horse, an attorney for the family, told KUOW.

King County ordered the inquest to help answer questions about the shooting. According to KUOW, the results could help prosecutors decide whether to bring charges against the two deputies involved. Both officers remain on paid leave, the station reported.

Davis was Native but news reports have not explicitly stated whether she was a citizen of the Muckleshoot Tribe. She was a teacher at the Muckleshoot Early Learning Academy at the time of her passing.
