The Little River Band of Ottawa Indians broke ground on a $170 million housing development in Fruitport Township, Michigan. The first phase of the project features 115 homes. Eventually, up to 300 homes will be built on the 120-acre site. “Our goal was to work with the local community to develop a unique village that offers homes of different sizes and amenities for first time home buyers, retirees and growing families in the area,” Larry Romanelli, the tribe's ogema, or chief, said at the groundbreaking on March 25. The development will be named "Odeno," which means "Place of Many Hearts" in the Odawa dialect of the Ojibwe language. It's located near the site of the tribe's proposed off-reservation casino in Fruitport Township. Read More on the Story:
